About

Mission Statement - MONTROSE CITIZENS FOR RESPONSIBLE GROWTH (MCRG) is a non-profit, non-partisan, apolitical organization. Its primary purpose is to give voice to, organize, and coordinate the actions of the individual citizens
of Montrose County, Colorado, who wish to balance sensible & moderate growth with a binding commitment to maintaining our quality of life consistent with our rural and agricultural heritage.

Elaboration - This organization is a strong proponent of private property rights and the rule of law. Property owners should be able to sell their property to anyone of their choosing. Additionally, we recognize that we are all part of a larger community called Montrose County- the majority of whose citizens have endorsed the intent and policies of our County Master Plan, for the long-term benefit of all. This Plan clearly and emphatically reiterates the primary importance of “maintaining our rural heritage by strengthening and enhancing agriculture”, thereby preserving the values and quality of life which drew us here. We believe our county’s land use rules and regulations should unequivocally be derived from, and be consistent with, our Master Plan. Therefore, buyers and developers of property should expect to comply with these regulations, as well as to pay for additional strains on the county’s resources caused by their developments. We believe that the implementation of this basic philosophy will create a win-win situation for all concerned, and will make Montrose County a desirable place to call home for the foreseeable future.
